Professor Hideaki Kogo, Supervising Editor for English Conversation, recommends Betia

Betia is conducive to immersion learning

Immersion learning is one method of becoming proficient in a language that has not yet been learned. By immersing themselves in an environment in which the target language is actually being used, students aim to acquire it naturally. With Betia, learning begins with listening to conversations by ear and actually speaking. Placing yourself in an environment where you hear and speak a lot of English is a very effective way to gain English conversation skills. Students can improve their English communication skills by repeating the cycle of listening and speaking English out loud in an environment where English is naturally visible. Betia is a game that successfully complements aspects of learning that are difficult to address through an academic approach alone. The crucial thing is to create an environment in which students can continue to enjoy ongoing daily exposure to English.

The level of English proficiency for Betia ranges from about Level 5 to Level 3 on the EIKEN®︎ Test, and less than 225 on the TOEIC®︎ L&R TEST (full score of 990), so it is recommended for elementary school students who are about to begin learning English. Early exposure helps learners become familiar with the sound of English, and to develop an ability to process information at high speed, which is something English language exams require these days.

This is English conversation that you learn while you play, which naturally makes it quite effective for middle school and high school students, as well as working adults. By enjoying listening to and speaking English continually, even for a brief period, you will gradually build up your “English brain.” This is a game that I would like to see people who want to relearn English come into contact with.
